Legal Workshop for Immigrants

Understanding Residence Permits in Germany

As part of the GAaNF Mentoring Programme, GAaNF hosted a Legal Workshop for Immigrants on 27 June 2026, focused on understanding residence permits in Germany. The online session took place via Zoom and was open free of charge to Third Country Nationals seeking clearer guidance on their residence status and next steps.

The workshop was led by Selah Gaomi and addressed key questions that many immigrants face when navigating the German residence system. Participants received practical information on different types of residence permits, renewal and extension procedures, the rights and responsibilities of permit holders, and common mistakes to avoid during the application process.

The session also created space to discuss what can be done when an application is delayed or rejected, helping participants better understand available options and the importance of timely action. A live Q&A allowed attendees to raise their own questions and receive direct guidance in a supportive setting.

For GAaNF, the workshop reflected the importance of accessible information, community-based support and empowerment through knowledge. By offering practical orientation on residence permits, the Mentoring Programme continued to support immigrants in making informed decisions and avoiding unnecessary challenges in their journey in Germany.
