Inauguration of UN Women Global Office
21 November 2025 | Bonn
GAaNF was represented at the inauguration of
UN Women’s new global office in Bonn,
a milestone that strengthens UN Women’s global work at a time when progress on gender equality faces major pushback in many parts of the world.
The opening in Bonn signals long-term commitment. It anchors global coordination, partnerships, and action in a city that already hosts a dense UN ecosystem. Beyond symbolism, it is a reminder that institutions matter, not only values. Gender equality requires resources, coordination, and the courage to protect hard-won rights when they come under pressure.
For GAaNF, being present was also about connection. Gender equality is not a separate “theme” from migration and development. It shapes access to opportunity, safety, recognition, and participation, and it influences how programmes reach people in practice.
Our reflection
- Global commitments need institutional backing and real capacity
- Rights-based approaches become most important when they are contested
- Partnerships across civil society and institutions are key to sustained progress
