Open Day at the BMZ Berlin

On the weekend of 19 and 20 August 2023, the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) opened its doors to interested citizens. The aim of this event was to facilitate an open dialogue on German development policy.

Discussion rounds were held on both days. Federal Development Minister Svenja Schulze and invited guests talked about major political issues such as the Ukraine crisis, global food security, the implementation of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and Africa's potential.

Among the invited stage guests was Ms Edith Otiende-Lawani, lawyer and chairperson of the association "Giving Africa a New Face e.V.". With other well-known panellists such as H.E. Thomas Amolo, Ambassador of the Republic of Kenya in Berlin, Mr. Frank Schwabe from the BMZ and others, there was a varied discussion about Africa as a continent of opportunity, especially how the multi-layered potential of Africa's young population can be mutually exploited, and what perspectives African youth need.

On this occasion, the embassies of the African countries, Ukraine and BMZ partner organisations also offered enough insight into their work through interactive meeting and exchange platforms.
