Report on the event „WE'RE REPRESENTING OURSELVES“

On November 18, 2023, an all-day event entitled "WIR STELLEN UNS VOR!" took place in Munich's Old Town Hall. The focus was on the idea that people from different backgrounds and social spheres who are committed to civil society should come together in an open setting to present their ideas and initiatives, exchange ideas and form synergies, and find out about various funding programs. After all, current world events have once again highlighted the importance of civil society initiatives and how closely events around the globe are interconnected! And this goal was undoubtedly achieved! Because our event has never been so colorful!

One of the guests of honor was Ms. Antje Herbst from the office of Mayor Verena Dietl, who picked up on topics of today's political discussion in her welcoming speech, including general migration, the influx of skilled workers and the ongoing labor shortage in Germany. Special attention was paid to the role of the diaspora, which acts as a link between the countries of origin and Germany.

and Germany.

The welcoming speech was followed by enriching impulses from Mr. Markus Priesterath from the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Homeland (BMI) and Mr. Jannik Krone from the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, who each presented extensive offers on funding programs and cooperation opportunities from their respective departments.

The event also provided an opportunity for an in-depth exchange on the social hotspot of skills shortages in Germany and the associated potential and hurdles. The panel discussion, which was made up of practitioners from state and civil society institutions - including the City of Munich, IOM Germany, AiDiA, AG-Career Hub, HelperNet and SocialBee - offered differentiated insights into the topic. The positive atmosphere that could be felt in the room, even with some difficult questions, left a lasting impression. The solutions expressed by the panel and the audience were a great enrichment for all participants.

Another highlight of the event was the information stands of the organizations present, which gave the event a lively atmosphere. They presented their areas of work in a relaxed and friendly environment. The diversity of supra-regional and interdisciplinary topics was reflected in the various stands, which ranged from social initiatives at home and abroad to cultural projects.

The event at Munich City Hall on November 18, 2023 thus left a lasting impression as a forum for open exchange and constructive discussion of current social issues. The focus on exchanging information, meeting at eye level, proactively shaping and networking the participants was positive and was a fitting expression of the appreciation of the bridge created by the initiatives, which is exactly what a diverse society needs!

GAaNF and its partner organizations would like to thank the more than 30 organizations present for their participation. Special thanks also go to the German Foundation for Engagement and Volunteering DSEE, the City of Munich and Care for their financial support. Many thanks to everyone who contributed to making the "WIR STELLEN UNS VOR" event a success. In view of the interest expressed in a follow-up event, contacts will be maintained and the WIR STELLEN UNS VOR! platform will be further expanded.
